DIY Chocolate Peppermint Oreo Pops

When it comes to gifts of food during the holidays, I am all about quick, easy, and yummy.  These dark chocolate peppermint Oreo pops are super easy to make and are delicious to boot.  Hand them out individually or gift them as a fun bouquet.

Chocolate Peppermint Oreo Pops

Oreo pops have been around for a while, but I'll bet you haven't seen them made with Doodlebug's colorful pixies straws!  Rather than insert a regular ol' white lollipop stick, add some extra holiday cheer to your treats by using pixies straws to turn Oreos into pops.

The combination of dark chocolate and peppermint is so yummy!   I had originally intended to make white chocolate pops, but I wrecked the chocolate in the microwave.  Oops. 

Gently hold both sides of the Oreo while inserting the pixie straw.  The pixies fit nicely into a single stuffed Oreo without causing it to pop open.  I only know this because I got single stuffed Oreos on accident.

You can use any variety of chocolate and sprinkles to make festive Oreo pops.   I learned a couple of valuable lessons while melting chocolate in the microwave.  First, heat low and slow.  50% power for 30 seconds at a time (or less) should do the trick.  Melting the chocolate too fast will lead to a funky blob.  Second, add a little bit of vegetable shortening as you melt the chocolate to keep it nice and smooth. 

After you dip the pop in chocolate, lay it on a cooling rack and add crushed peppermint. 

Place each Oreo pop in a little baggie and tie with twine.  Add a sweet little tag and and they're ready to go!

  1. I cannot get chocolate or the candy melts the right consistency in the microwave ever. Like ever ever. I have tried every trick and tutorial out there and it never works out. These look delish - and oh-so fun!
