Embroidery Hoop Snow Globe Shaker Ornaments

Every year I look forward to adding new, handmade ornaments to our Christmas tree.  As I dug through a pile of craft supplies in my craft room, I ran across a few 3" and 4" embroidery hoops.  They are the perfect size for Christmas ornaments.  Inspired by sequin shaker cards, I thought it would be fun to create embroidery hoop snow globe shaker ornaments.  It was fun and easy, and I couldn't be any happier with the results!

These snow globe shaker ornaments are so much fun!  I find my kids stopping by the Christmas tree on occasion to give the sequin snow a little shake.  The sound of the sequins bouncing around in the hoop is so much fun.

Inspired by the snowflake paper and the little snowman die cut, I created a cute wintry scene inside of a 4" embroidery hoop.  I layered stickers, die cuts, and rolling hills to create the scene and added white sequin snow.  I topped the ornament with a pretty, red satin double bow.

Woodland Snow Globe Shaker Ornament
This embroidery hoop snow globe shaker ornament has a wintry woodland feel.  I fussy cut the deer from a printed die cut and created a little forest with tree stickers.  I added white and silver sequins to make the snow more sparkly.  The burlap bow adds a perfect rustic touch.

I had another little snowman die cut that I put into a 3" embroidery hoop with a glittery hill and some white sequins

To create an embroidery hoop snow globe shaker ornament, start by creating the background.  Add hills of snow, trees, snowflakes--whatever your creative heart desires.  After you have everything in place, add a bead of glue to the hoop and adhere to your background.  Place a book on top of the hoop while the glue dries.

Add dimension to your snow globe scene by popping up parts of the scene with foam.  As a general rule, smaller elements will go in the back of the scene and larger elements will be placed near the front.

After your scene is complete, trim away the excess paper with a pair of scissors or craft knife and add sequins or glitter to your scene.

Apply a bead of glue to the top of the hoop and place the transparency on top.  But, Oh no!  It looks so ugly!  I used both Scotch Quick Dry glue and E6000 and both adhesives dry clear.  Whew!

See, the adhesive is dry and clear.  So pretty.

Get Rid of Static Cling on Transparencies and Sequins

Static cling on a clear transparency can be a real annoyance when crafting with glitter or sequins.  To help minimize the static on a transparency, rub both sides with a dryer sheet.

The dryer sheet will leave a film on the transparency.  Gently buff both sides of the transparency with a clean tissue to remove the film.

You can also help minimize static cling on sequins by gently rubbing a handful of sequins in a dryer sheet.

Thanks so much for the advice for how to deal with static! It's definitely my nemesis when it comes to shaker cards!
