Corrugated Rick Rack Hello Card

Hello!  I finally had a chance to sit down and play with my new Silhouette adhesive corrugated paper and washi sheets and created this CAS corrugated rick rack hello card

Corrugated Rick Rack Hello Card

I could seriously put corrugated embellishments on everything.  I love this stuff!  I created a washi rick rack border to mimic the waves in the corrugated paper.  For more details on this card, as well as a complete list of supplies, head on over to the Silhouette Blog.

Wedding Congratulations, Love Bugs, and Save the Date Cards

Look at me--I'm stamping!  I am so excited to be sharing my first cards as an Avocado Arts Pit Crew member.  I used the Forever Yours and Days and Months set to create a wedding congratulations, love bugs, and save the date cards.

Wedding Congratulations, Love Bugs, and Save the Date Cards

Although I don't drink, I just love the delicate champagne glasses in the Forever Your set.  This CAS card was quick to make and would be perfect for a wedding.

I stamped the champagne glasses on gold vellum and paper pieced them onto the card.  Gold vellum works great in lieu of a gold pen or glitter.

I couldn't resist paper piecing the little VW Bugs from the Forever Yours set.  Love bugs in love was so perfect for Valentine's Day.

Each little bug got a set of eyes with some pretty eyelids and lashes for the lil' lady.

I paired the save the date stamp and the Days and Months stamp set with bright florals from Chickaniddy Crafts' Date Night collection to create a pretty Save the Date card.

I trimmed leaves from patterned paper and combined them with stickers to create a sweet bouquet of flowers in the corner.

Happy stamping!

Lofthouse Style Soft Sugar Cookies

I am not a food blogger, but I found this fantastic sugar cookie recipe scribbled in purple marker on the back of a maze in my recipe box the other day and just had to try it out.  Oh. My. Gosh.  Best cookies ever!  These Lofthouse Style Soft Sugar Cookies are thick, soft, and they taste fantastic.

Lofthouse Style Soft Sugar Cookies

These cookies are aptly named Lofthouse Style and not Lofthouse Copycat.  They are thick and soft like a traditional pink Lofthouse sugar cookie, but are not intended to be an exact replica of what you may find in the store.  Nevertheless, they are utterly delicious and highly addictive.

Cream together softened butter, cream cheese, and sugar until nice and smooth.   (What's this funny mixer I have?  It is a Bosch Universal Kitchen Machine that does all sorts of cool kitchen things, not unlike a Kitchen-Aid.)

Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract.  Mix thoroughly

Add flour and baking soda mixing until just combined.

The dough will look pretty chunky when it is all mixed together.  Chill for 1+ hours before rolling out.

Roll dough on flour covered surface until about 1/4" thick.

Dip heart-shaped cookie cutter in flour before each cut to keep the dough from sticking to the cookie cutter.

The cookies will be slightly golden on the bottom.

The cookies will have a little bit of loft right out of the oven, but will flatten nicely as they cool.

Mmmm!  These cookies are soft and flaky on the inside.

BONUS!  These cookies hold their shape really well making them ideal for more intricate cutouts.

Top each cookie with your favorite frosting and some festive sprinkles.  I used Betty Crocker vanilla frosting for these cookies.  Shhh...no one's telling!

Don't they look pretty lined up on a platter?

Lofthouse Style Soft Sugar Cookies Recipe

1 1/2 C granulated sugar
1 C butter
8 oz. (1 pkg.) regular cream cheese
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp almond extract
3 1/2 C flour
1 tsp baking powder

Instructions:
Cream granulated sugar, butter, and cream cheese together until smooth.  Add egg, vanilla, and almond extract; mix thoroughly.  Add flour and baking powder and mix until just combined.  Chill dough for 1+ hours.  Bake at 350oF for 8-10 minutes.

Happy baking!

Paper Crafted Valentine's Day Home Decor

Happy Valentine's Day!  Do you tend to hoard your favorite embellishments or save them for "later"?  It's time to free them from your stash!  I created a piece of paper crafted Valentine's Day home decor with some of my favorite embellishments.

Paper Crafted Valentine's Day Home Decor

I used loads of goodies from Pebbles' Yours Truly collection to embellish each patterned paper square.

Each paper square is 2" square and is mounted with foam squares.  I picked my favorite embellishments and placed them on each square.  Doesn't that strawberry look good enough to eat?

I love the fat little bee with heart shaped wings!

Adhere some elements with foam squares to add dimension to your project.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Transparent Patterned Word Embellishments

If you have been here often enough, you know I love a good DIY craft.  This week I thought I would make my own transparent patterned word embellishments to use on cards and other projects.

Transparent Patterned Word Embellishments

I created a patterned ampersand and used it as the focal point of this card.  Be sure to head on over to the Silhouette Blog for a full tutorial on how to make your own custom patterned words and embellishments.

Paper Wedding Cake Boxes

Good morning, y'all!  Today I am excited to share the paper wedding cake boxes sample I put together for the Chickaniddy Crafts CHA 2014 booth.

Paper Wedding Cake Boxes

I designed a tower of round boxes to resemble a wedding cake.  Each box is intentionally turned upside down to make each layer look more like a real wedding cake, yet the lids are removable leaving the boxes functional.

I embellished each lid with a different metallic silver border.  The silver on each layer adds visual interest without being too overwhelming.

I added a die cut paper flower to each box to draw your eye to each layer of the cake.

Each paper flower is composed of several die cut layers.  Curling the petals adds dimension, with the shadows creating different tones.

Starting in the center of the flower, gently curl each petal with the end of a pencil or paint brush, continuing until you get to the outermost layers.

I attached all of the flower layers together with a single brad.

A stacked paper cake would make a lovely gift presentation or centerpiece for a wedding, sweet 16 party, or tea party.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Mini Gumball Machine Party Favor

Hi everyone!  Inspired by the gumball machine icon in Doodlebug's new Sweetheart collection, I decided to make a mini gumball machine party favor for my kids this Valentine's Day.

Mini Gumball Machine Party Favor

Who wouldn't love to wake up to one of these on Valentine's Day?  Put one of these together for your kids or give one to your sweetheart on Valentine's Day.  All that's required are a few die cuts and some candy that fits into the ornaments.  Somebody asked, "How do I get the candy out?"  As a general rule, if you can get the candy into the top of the ornament, it should shake out pretty easily.  Admittedly, a few of the m&m's got stuck.  Next time I'll try something a bit smaller like jelly beans.

I embellished the base with coordinating patterned paper and made the spinner from some silver foil paper from Chickaniddy Crafts and a glittery brad.

I affixed a strip of narrow washi tape around the center of the ball and added a pretty little sticker.  I cut a narrow strip of patterned paper and wrapped it around the top of the ornament.

The ornament balances well on the top of the machine base, but the two pieces could be adhered together by applying adhesive to the tabs on the top of the base.

You can easily swap out the papers to suit your celebration.  These would make super fun birthday party favors!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Camper Card

Campers are trendy little buggers these days.  I decided it was about time to use one of the many Silhouette camper files I have had stashed away and make a happy camper card.

Happy Camper Card

Although this card could be used for many occasions, I love the idea of using it as a non-traditional valentine.  It's not too mushy and has a masculine touch making it perfect for husbands, boyfriends, sons, etc.

Kitty photo bomb!  Little Pooh sure knows how to get my attention.  While I was photographing this card she hopped up on my table and decided to relax for a moment under the warm lights, right in front of the camera lens.  Message received.

Head on over to the Silhouette Blog for more details on this card as well as a complete list of supplies.

Happy crafting!

DIY Paper Flower Bouquet

I had so much fun making paper doily flowers a couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd make some more pretty paper flower projects.  I started by making this DIY paper flower bouquet into a piece of Valentine's Day decor.  Be sure to check out THIS POST for a complete photo tutorial on how to make your own paper doily flowers.

DIY Paper Flower Bouquet

A bouquet of paper flowers in a coordinating container makes for a lovely display.  Give the bouquet as a gift or use as a piece of decor.

I cut a piece of floral foam to size and placed it in the bottom of the container.  I alternated four pink and four white flowers around the edge of the cup and put the remaining two pink flowers in the center of the bouquet.

When put together, these flowers bear a striking resemblance to carnations.

The container is simply a frosting cup wrapped with patterned paper and some stickers.

This bouquet was so easy to make.  Be sure to check out THIS POST for a complete tutorial on how to create DIY paper doily flowers.
